Why Your District Matters

Each judicial district in Idaho has its own court schedules, judges, and sometimes even local rules. That means something like filing a probate case in Bonneville County (7th Judicial District) may not work exactly the same way as it does in Twin Falls County (5th Judicial District).

Idaho Judicial Districts

Idaho has seven judicial districts, and each one covers specific counties. Where you (or your loved one) live helps determine where your case is filed.

Note For Guardianship and Conservatorship:
You file in the district where the person under guardianship lives. If you need help filling out required reports, you may locate the Guardianship and Conservatorship Monitoring Coordinators in each region by visiting the Idaho Supreme Court’s Guardianships and Conservatorships website. First Judicial District

Counties: Benewah, Bonner, Boundary, Kootenai, Shoshone
‍Towns: Coeur d’Alene, Sandpoint, Bonners Ferry, Post Falls, Wallace, St. Maries

Second Judicial District

Counties: Clearwater, Idaho, Latah, Lewis, Nez Perce
‍Towns: Moscow, Lewiston, Orofino, Grangeville, Nezperce

Third Judicial District

Counties: Adams, Canyon, Gem, Owyhee, Payette, Washington
‍Towns: Caldwell, Nampa, Emmett, Payette, Weiser, Murphy

Fourth Judicial District

Counties: Ada, Boise, Elmore, Valley
‍Towns: Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Mountain Home, Cascade, McCall

Fifth Judicial District

Counties: Blaine, Camas, Cassia, Gooding, Jerome, Lincoln, Minidoka, Twin Falls
‍Towns: Twin Falls, Burley, Rupert, Jerome, Hailey, Ketchum, Sun Valley, Shoshone, Fairfield

Sixth Judicial District

Counties: Bannock, Bear Lake, Caribou, Franklin, Oneida, Power
‍Towns: Pocatello, Soda Springs, Preston, Malad City, Lava Hot Springs, American Falls

Seventh Judicial District

Counties: Bingham, Bonneville, Butte, Clark, Custer, Fremont, Jefferson, Lemhi, Madison, Teton
